How is CIDP diagnosed?
CIDP has symptoms similar to other conditions, so it can be difficult to diagnose.
A valid diagnosis of CIDP may be provided by a specialist doctor (neurologist) who will take in to consideration the length of time you have been experiencing symptoms.
There’s no specific test to diagnose CIDP. To get a correct diagnosis, your doctor will:
- Review your health history.
- Complete a physical examination to assess things such as strength, sensations, and coordination.
- Ask questions about your symptoms, such as when they started, how they feel and how long you’ve had them.
- Recommend tests to get a better idea of what’s going on with your nerves, and to rule out other possible causes. Tests may include nerve conduction and EMG (electromyography), spinal fluid analysis, and blood and urine tests.
